Goldberg-Variationen

An eternally timeless piece of music, Johann Sebastian Bach's Baroque Goldberg Variations have been an inspiration for countless other sets of variations and continue to be among the most performed works for piano. However, it doesn't always have to be played on the 88 keys. In this concert, the Koyama Trio presents a version for violin, viola, and double bass. The Czech composer Johann Baptist Wanhal, whose beautifully crafted Divertimento opens the concert, is a composer of the classical music era – a jest would be had by those who, when listening "blindly," might mistake the work for one by Haydn. And with the Russian composer Sergei Taneyev and his dance-like and lush String Trio, we ultimately turn to the delicate romanticism.
