What is Spanish music, actually? That's not so easy to answer. "Carmen" and "Bolero" - well, these two "Spanish" hits were indeed composed by French composers. That doesn't make them any less valuable, but let's take a look at Manuel de Falla, a true Spaniard, who created wonderful dance rhythms on paper with his ballet music "The Three-Cornered Hat" - which, by the way, are even more concentrated in suite form. While George Gershwin's symphonic poem "An American in Paris," which captures the bustling city life in breathtaking sounds, became famous worldwide through the cinema, the two Mexican composers Silvestre Revueltas and Arturo Márquez are largely unknown in this country. That can and should change on this evening!
