Cello-Romanze

For these concerts, Chief Conductor Nicholas Milton brings a truly joyful symphony: Johannes Brahms' Summer Symphony, his Second Symphony, which captures the Austrian landscape that the native Hamburg composer delighted in at the time, in sounds. It's like hearing blue sky, sunshine, and colorful flowers... The concert opens with Ludwig van Beethoven's third Leonore Overture, which essentially condenses the entire opera "Fidelio" into a smaller form. Or as Wagner remarked, "Far from merely providing a musical introduction to the drama, it presents it to us already more complete and gripping..." And Pyotr Tchaikovsky's wonderful Rokoko Variations, dedicated to the great Mozart, are actually an exquisitely crafted cello concerto.
