Ah, French music, with its floating melodies and lightness... Let's take Camille Saint-Saëns, who composed a wonderful cello concerto in 1872. Though structured in the classical three-movement form, it seems to glide without pause like a fantasy. The young and highly promising cellist, Charlotte Melkonian, takes on the solo part. César Franck followed suit about 15 years later, creating his orchestral masterpiece, the Symphony in D minor, which is classical, French, and simply beautiful. The morning is rounded off with two miniatures, also from our neighboring country: a Dukas fanfare that proves even brass music can sound almost gentle in French, and a nocturne by Henri Duparc, effortlessly celebrating the stars. It's like listening to God in France!
